OMAR RODRIGUEZ-LOPEZ

"The sound of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and John Frusciante riffing off each other and bouncing textures over simplistic, yet defined melodies is what lies in this new Omar-related musical endeavor. The record goes back to the concept of a two-man guitar jam. It's one of the most basic forms of musical bonding and the intertwining of individuals' styles and musical thoughts over a set progression or song. However the process of two men recording their completely different musical abilities over an album of set melodies and songs, transcends above what is originally seen as a stripped-down, simple jam. (...) The fact that the jam-based, un-intellectualized approach of this album can create such a haunting atmosphere and create a vibe of musical complexity, is what is ultimately the most impressive aspect of this record. When two men approach the same song structure with different sounds and ideas, it can lead to magnificent heights."

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & HIS MAGIC BAND

"Is Safe As Milk a classic? Absolutely! There wasn’t much else going on in 1967 that was as bent as this music, but that’s what makes it so significant.  It’s the origin of a man too stubborn for his own good and ignorant of the elements that make records into products.  It’s aural painting from a legend in the making and deserves a spot in any classic rock collector’s cabinet."

MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA

"The Inner Mounting Flame's ascending and descending distortion-laden mantra-like riffs and unison playing set a standard for jazz-rock that is still in place today. It's Indian influences merged with blues scales and rock rawness set the music world on fire. The musical attack was relentless. (...) Melodies and rhythms like had never been heard before. The distortion and the loudness could be insulting, and the speed of the playing was mind-numbing. In short, this was the greatest jazz-fusion recording ever made."

'Latest 12" from Cleveland's kings of idiocy, and it doesn't disappoint. This one is a little more "punk," a little less "weird" than some of their recent releases, almost sounding like Dangerhouse-era west coast punk in some places. Fucking killer.'

ETERNAL TAPESTRY

'Beyond the 4th Door contains long stretches of melodic guitar improvisations, dark brooding songs that slowly build and expand to allow in layers of light. The album was recorded in their home studio and was created by recording more that two hours of material, mostly live, and hand picking what you hold in your hands. There is a free and open nature to their structure creating for the listener a spacious environment to explore.'

'Like fellow locals Comets on Fire or English space rockers Hawkwind or Spaceman 3, Wooden Shjips' magic is created by a mix of pummeling hypnotic grooves and otherworldly guitar that sounds like Hendrix strung out in a methadone clinic.'

GAZA

GAZA Myspace

From Salt Lake City, Gaza play a dark, glooming and frantic breed of hardcore and metal mixed with grind. Combining the sludgy, droney elements of Crowbar or Soilent Green with the absolute blasting force of Pig Destroyer, adjectives like abrasive and devastating, do not even begin to touch the full extremes of this group.

COFFINWORM

Coffinworm Myspace

'Coffinworm’s myspace has a single line description of the band: ‘the arms of chaos grinding you into dust’. And quite true that is. Coffinworm create a crushing wall of death-doom, with thick sludgy riffs swirling around distorted feedback. A foreboding atmosphere is present throughout this demo, mixed with short plucked string interludes. If you like stuff like Eyehategod then chances are you will dig this a lot.'

Buckethead

Buckethead Website

'Brian Patrick Carroll, better known as Buckethead, is an American musician and songwriter. He has released 28 solo albums and performed on over 50 more. His music spans such diverse areas as progressive metal, thrash metal, funk, electronica, jazz, bluegrass, and avant-garde music. When performing in his theatrical persona, Buckethead used to wear a KFC bucket on his head, emblazoned with an orange bumper sticker that read "funeral" in capital black block letters, and an expressionless plain white costume mask. More recently, he has switched to a plain white bucket no longer bearing the KFC logo. He also incorporates nunchaku, robot dancing, and toy trading into his stage performances. Buckethead's persona represents a character who was "raised by chickens" and has made it his mission in life to alert the world to the ongoing chicken holocaust in fast-food joints around the globe.'

I remember listening to LB and it was so fucking harsh to me at the first time...
To be absolutly sincere with you - I did not like it.
I just heard noise and more noise. It was something that I would not play in my room really loud, for sure!
I was dumb! I did not take a closer listening to it, so, I forgot LB for a while... I didn't want to 'understand' that noise.
However, I have a friend that loves LB. It's a very closer friend of mine.
He was very persistant about showing me how amazing LB sounds.
He won!
LB has a really amazing sound, definitely. They are extraordinary. Yes.

Lightning Bolt is not a band for the family,
specially for your grand-parents!
Love them or hate them, I understand both of the feelings.
BUT, one thing is for sure:
Lightning Bolt deserves respect as musicians!

Lightning Bolt, it's strongly recommended.
It's amazing how simply two dudes can delivers so much noise! Damn!
If you have the oportunity to see them live - Go for it! I would!

The Power Of Salad & Milkshakes, DVD 2003

'The Power of Salad, also known as The Power of Salad & Milkshakes, is a film by Peter Glantz and Nick Noe, featuring and documenting the Providence, Rhode Island noise rock band Lightning Bolt. The film follows the avant-garde duo, Brian Gibson and Brian Chippendale, through a tour of the states, along with interviews of the band and their friends and family.'

It wouldn't be a waste of time watching this film. I tell you!
In Power of Salad you can see how ordinary normal guys Lighting Bolt are and how massive shows they play.
Take care of your ears!

'Moccasin, who formed in 2003, are a Denver, Colorado band that mixes melancholy and atmosphere to paint a rather baroque picture. They mix soothing sounds of psychedelic fuzz with depressing tones. (...)
If you want to really feel the music and get totally wrapped up in it, than Moccasin is the band for you. Their sad tones and morose strumming will have you hooked. Make sure you check these guys out.'

"East Coast's answer to Fu Manchu, keeping it simple and thick with harmonious metal groove. It wasn't heavy riffs and growls, but power riffs and soulful rock delivery wrapped in metal packaging. Freedom Hawk's sound is large, like trying to force an elephant to fit in a closet."
